Orthodontics is a specialist area of dentistry to correct teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. It is an exciting treatment that provides many benefits, including:
- Better health and comfort
- Better smiles
- Better self-esteem.
It strives to improve the bite by helping to direct the forces placed on teeth.
- Chewing stress is distributed throughout the mouth to minimise excessive stress on bones, roots, gum tissue and temporo-mandibular joints.
- Properly aligned teeth are easier to brush, which may reduce the risk of tooth decay or gum disease.
In many cases orthodontics involves braces. These days, a lot of people are also getting Invisalign.
We have a specialist orthodontist, Dr Michael Cook. He joined the clinic in 2003 from the University of Hong Kong Prince Philip Dental Hospital, where he was the founding Orthodontist and subsequently Professor in Orthodontics.
Dr Cooke practices all orthodontic techniques including early (interceptive) treatment, growth modification (functional orthopaedics) and tooth coloured appliances. He will recommend the best treatment for you based on a detailed examination, which includes x-rays and photos. He will explain everything to you in detail so you can make an informed decision about proceeding.
